How to Get Rid of Chat Heads on Samsung

Put your messages in floating bubbles on your Samsung phone

While text messages are a fun and convenient way to keep in touch with family and friends, having to constantly open your messaging app to read and reply can get repetitive. With the new Bubble feature for One UI 3, you can make your messages appear as little popups. Your most recent messages will remain in the bubble for you to view, and you can tap the bubble to open the conversation in a popup window. Now it will be easier to reply to texts while still enjoying your phone's other feature and apps.

In order to make texts appear as bubbles, there are two different settings you need to enable. Once you do that, your conversations will have a new look and functionality.

Note: These instructions are only for the Samsung Messages app, if you are using an app provided by your carrier or an app you downloaded, the options may be different, or the app may not support bubble notifications.

  1. To begin, navigate to and open Settings, and then tap Notifications.

  2. Tap Advanced settings, tap Floating notifications, and then choose Bubbles.

  3. Next, navigate to and open the SamsungMessages app.

  4. Tap More options, and then tap Settings.

  5. Tap Notifications, and then tap Show as bubbles. From here, choose your desired option. You can choose between All orSelected only.

Maybe you want bubbles to only appear for certain contacts, such as your best friend. In this case, just turn on bubbles for individual conversations in the Samsung Messages app. Every other text message will appear regularly.

First, make sure you've turned on bubble notifications in the general Notification settings (see the previous section for details). When you're ready, open the Messages app, and then tap More options (the three vertical dots). Tap Settings, and then tap Notifications. Recent conversations you've had will appear on this screen. Tap your desired conversation, and then tap the switch next to "Bubble this conversation."

Additionally, you can toggle bubbles through text notifications. When you receive a text, swipe down slightly on the notification to expand it, and then tap the square icon that appears to switch bubbles on or off.

Note: If recent conversations do not appear on the Notification page, you can try using the steps in the previous section to turn on bubble notifications.

You can also use this feature with the Facebook Messenger app! Bubbles will appear like the chat heads used in previous versions.

  1. To begin, navigate to and open Settings, and then tap Notifications.

  2. Tap Advanced settings, tap Floating notifications, and then choose Bubbles.

  3. Next, navigate to and open the Facebook Messenger app.

  4. Tap your profile picture in the top left corner, and then scroll to and tap Bubbles.

  5. Choose whether you want all conversations, or only conversations you have selected to appear in bubbles, and tap the appropriate option.

The next time you receive a Facebook message, it will appear as a bubble! You can drag the bubble around the screen and tap it when you want to reply.

If a conversation is finished or you no longer want to chat, you can remove the bubble popup from your phone's screen.

Simply touch and hold the bubble icon and then drag it toward the bottom of the screen. An X will appear once you reach the bottom; drag the bubble on top of the X to delete the popup. Release your finger when you're done.
